When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.

okay, here's batman's shameful secret
the stroke int he back is a hybrid of pen strokes and a fractal render. the largest red stroke that follows the sweep of the blade, and the first yellow one is the fractal. All the little ones around it were made using clone brush, layers, a texture (for the really little ones) another texture, for the little blot spots, and lots of trial and error with overlays and filters.
Basically, i clicked things until cool stuff happened.
But, to make cool strokes check out a program called Apophysis. DL it and start it up. In the left pane is a bunch of mathmatically random fractals. Choose a few, let them load, and find one you like that has good, clean form. Then click the little button with 9 boxes on it, this is the mutator. Try clicking the images and tweaking the toolbar there to make new forms.
then click the render, choose a size, and a quality, and run the thing. also, there is a toolbar somewhere for color gradient and background, though I usually just make them B&W then color em in photoshop.
